March has arrived, bringing with it the promise of spring, sunshine, and just enough unpredictable Houston weather to keep our wardrobe choices interesting. Do we need a sweater, shorts, or a canoe? With each new day, the answer always seems to be… yes???
It was such a joy to be with many of you at our historic Houston Heights Fire Station a few weeks ago for our annual awards presentation, celebrating our hard-working volunteers. I was incredibly honored that my family received the Family Spirit Award. My youngest son, Declan, proudly declared himself the keeper of this very special trophy, which now graces his bookshelf beside a LEGO Fortnite Battle Bus: a seat of legendary status in our house! I want to send a
huge THANK YOU to the Houston Heights Association’s Board of Directors not only for this great honor, but also for recognizing how much my family enjoys supporting this neighborhood. Congratulations to my fellow award winners, and a huge round of applause for every single volunteer who makes this organization so wonderful!

On March 6, the Houston Heights Association held its first Education Committee meeting in over five years! We were thrilled to have strong representation from local schools, including Harvard ES, Love ES, Helms ES, Wharton ES, Travis ES, and Hamilton MS.
The discussion was filled with energy and great ideas on how the HHA can better support our neighborhood schools and families. Possible efforts include:
Hosting mixers between school leadership teams (Principals, PTAs and PTOs)
Sharing best practices on common challenges, such as parent engagement, PTA/PTO setup, and fundraising strategies
It’s clear there is a lot of passion for this work, and we’re excited about what this committee can accomplish. In coming months, we hope to grow the committee and include representatives from additional local schools.
Would YOU Like to Get Involved?
The Education Committee will meet monthly on the first Thursday of the month at 12:00pm, with a virtual option available. Our next meeting will be Thursday, April 3 at 12:00pm.
We’re moving quickly and will have updates to share at the April HHA General Meeting.
If you're interested in joining or have questions, please reach out to Kristina Ronneberg at education@houstonheights.org.
